Low-income studentsContinuing students have access to the full range of scholarships based on financial need. This includes the Commonwealth Scholarships (valued between $2200 and $4400 per year, for up to four years), Equity Scholarships (valued at $2500 for one year only), Bursaries (valued between $500 and $1000 for one year only) and free computers. More information is on the Low-income webpage Student exchange scholarshipsQUT has a scheme to provide financial assistance to students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents wishing to broaden their educational experience through international study as part of their QUT program. QUT Exchange Scholarships are open to undergraduate and postgraduate students participating in the Student Exchange Program. These bursaries are awarded on the basis of a student's grade point average (GPA). Levels of support range from $1000 to $3000. Some faculties also offer scholarships for students undertaking an overseas exchange. OS-HELPThe Government offers a loan scheme called OS-HELP, which provides financial assistance to eligible undergraduate students wishing to undertake part of their course of study overseas. Eligible QUT students will be able to borrow up to $5000 per six months of study. The Government applies a 20 per cent loan fee to each OS-HELP loan. More information about OS-HELP Rural Allied Health Clinical Placement Scholarship SchemeThe Allied Health Clinical Placement Scholarship Scheme (AHCPSS) is an Australian Government initiative to support allied health and oral health students to undertake a clinical placement in a rural or remote Australian community during their degree. Applications are open to eligible students from across Australia from metropolitan, regional, rural and remote areas. Oral Health
Scholarship funding will be for a maximum of six weeks whilst the scholar is on their clinical placement. The scholarship will assist scholars undertaking a clinical placement from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010. Successful students will receive financial assistance towards travel, accommodation and living expenses, but the scholarship may not necessarily cover all costs incurred. Eligible scholars will be enrolled fulltime in an eligible allied health or oral health discipline as described above and be an Australian citizen or hold Australian Permanent Residency status. Emphasis will be placed on students in their 3rd or 4th year of study (if studying at undergraduate level) and postgraduate students. The AHCPS Scheme is managed by Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) and funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. Australian Council of Agricultural Societies in conjunction with Coca Cola AmatilThe Australian Council of Agricultural Societies with funding from Coca-Cola Amatil has on offer a total of 34 scholarships each of $2000 to be allocated annually for a period of five years. They are to support students studying agriculturally related subjects and will be distributed on a state by state basis. Sugar Scholarship CEED (Co-operative Education for Enterprise Development) Industry-based Research ScholarshipsThe CEED (Co-operative Education for Enterprise Development) Program is a form of education where part of the student's training is conducted in industry. This training is based on projects conducted on-site in industry or government. The project usually arises from a client's need to undertake R&D or improvement in an area for which it lacks available personnel or resources. CEED provides companies, State and Local Government with a cost-effective alternative method to undertake this work. A project needs to be of sufficient difficulty and suitable scope to be reported as a final year class project, Honours or Master's thesis while, at the same time, meeting the needs of the corporate agenda. The CEED program actively seeks out research topics in industry and generates scholarships for these studies. Charlie Bell Scholarship for Future LeadersThe Charlie Bell Scholarship for Future Leaders was created to recognise the late Charlie Bell's commitment to individual development and will reward up to three individuals up to $15 000 each towards their tuition fees for the 2009 academic year. The scholarship is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students from any discipline. For more information about the Executive Dean's Merit Scholarship EducationDean's Scholars ProgramThe Dean's Scholars Program identifies the top 20 students in the Faculty of Education undergraduate degrees based on a student's GPA at the end of their first year of study. Successful candidates are encouraged to become involved in research activities and are supported with mentoring to help them maintain their high achievements and gain entry to research pathways. Candidates will receive access to the Research Students' Centre, additional library borrowing rights, employment opportunities as casual research assistants as they arise, and invitations to a variety of Faculty seminars and functions. Dean's Scholars are expected to maintain a high GPA (normally 6) in order to retain this status throughout their undergraduate degree. Penridge Award Masonic Care Queensland Nursing BursaryThis bursary (new in 2006) valued at $3000 is awarded to an undergraduate nursing student in the final year of their course. Applicants are asked to demonstrate their level of understanding of nursing as a contemporary profession in the residential aged care practice setting. Recipients are encouraged to undertake a significant component of their final year clinical practice at Masonic Care Queensland – Sandgate or another facility operated by the organisation. of Health website Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health ScholarshipsPuggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme The Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants* and is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, and administered by Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA).
Selection will be based on criteria including demonstrated interest and experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, leadership qualities and financial need. This selection is not based on academic achievement. Safety Institute of Australia MedalTwo students (one undergraduate and one postgraduate) in their final-year of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) will be selected for the award based on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership and professional capability and are chosen from Queensland tertiary institutions teaching OH&S. The Queensland winners will go forward for national selection. Scholarships will be awarded to the value of $1000 each.
