Oodgeroo Noonuccal Undergraduate Scholarship
Program
The aim of the scholarship program is to promote the pursuit of Indigenous
rights and justice through supporting the education of Indigenous people.
The value of the scholarship is $5000 for the following purposes:
- purchase of a computer
- travel expenses
- textbooks
- other costs associated with completing your degree.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must be:
* an Indigenous Australian
* accepted into a course of study either in literature, education, history,
cultural studies, law, justice or race relations in 2008.

Charlie Bell Scholarship for Future
Leaders
The Charlie Bell Scholarship for Future Leaders was created to recognise the late Charlie Bell's commitment to individual development and will reward up to three individuals up to $15 000 each towards their tuition fees for the 2010 academic year. Australian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust
Scholarships for Children of Veterans intending Tertiary Studies in 2010
In 2010 the Australian Veterans’ Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT) are expecting to give financial assistance for up to 65 students under many different scholarship schemes. All schemes help the selected children in need of the Australian veteran community with the costs of tertiary education. Applicants are considered for all schemes for which they are eligible.
Applications open on 18 August 2009. To apply you must be:
- Within the means test. That is eligible on assets and income grounds for Youth Allowance benefits for full- time education.
- Enrolled, or planning to enrol in a full-time course of tertiary education in Australia by attendance at a
university, TAFE or college. The course must be of one or more academic years length and at undergraduate level.
- The child or grandchild of a person who has operational service with the Australian Navy, Army or Air Force, or if not has three or more year’s continuous full-time service as a member of the Australian Defence Force.
- Under the age of 25 when applying, unless exceptional circumstances related to veteran’s service exist.
The largest scheme is the Long Tan Bursary funded by the Australian Government. There are 50 new bursaries each year. They are valued at $9,000 each which paid at $3,000 per year for three years. There are selection number targets for each State and Territory. To apply you must be the child of an Australian Vietnam Veteran, be resident in Australia, be entering any year of tertiary study, having not previously received a Long Tan Bursary.
The other national schemes are the AVCAT Bursary, the two RSL Scholarships, three Vietnam Veterans’ Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Scholarship and the Defence Force Welfare Association Scholarship. George Quinsey Scholarships directly pay tuition fees for economics, commerce and accountancy studies. There are also regional scholarships. In NSW, there are three from Brisbane Water Legacy covering Gosford/Wyong NSW and one from the NSW TPI Association. Some private donors offer two scholarships to resident NSW applicants. In SA, the VVAA also offers a scholarship.
Schemes vary between $3,000 and $5,000 per year each. Some are restricted to location of residence or studies Most require veteran service in Vietnam but others are broader. Most schemes continue payments for later years of study. All scholarship schemes but one pays monthly instalments. That scheme helps with tuition costs for courses in commerce, economics and accountancy. One scheme is for indigenous students doing substance abuse or related studies. For this scheme there is no upper age limit nor a need to be related to a veteran. In addition to the above there is one grant per year to assist an handicapped eligible veteran’s child or grandchild with special extra costs of transition to tertiary studies or employment

Dean's Scholars Program
The Dean's Scholars Program offers OP 1 students a scholarship to complete a Bachelor of Engineering while accessing leadership development and focused industry networking opportunities. Tuition fees will be covered for Commonwealth supported domestic students or approximately one-third of international student tuition fees. High performing Dean's Scholars can continue funded study to masters level within the Faculty. Engineering Technology bonus ranks may be used in the calculation of eligibility.

Corporate Partners in Excellence
The Corporate Partners in Excellence (CPIE) program offers high-achieving
school leavers an accelerated program of study and up to two semesters
work experience with one or more of the participating organisations within
three years.
The program is open to students wishing to undertake any major in Business.
The scholarship is worth $28,500 with students receiving $9,500 a year
for the three-year duration of their degree to cover fees and other educational espenses.

Dean's Honours Program (BS06)
The Faculty of Business Dean's Honours Program offers OP 1 or 2 students
an accelerated study program, allowing graduation with a Bachelor of Business
and Honours degree in the three years it normally takes to achieve the
Bachelor of Business.
The Dean’s Honours domestic students will be awarded a scholarship valued at $20,000 over the three years of the program. The international student scholarship is valued at $30,000 (paid as a fee waiver spread over the three years). Conditions apply.
There is no application process for this scholarship. Students will be contacted upon admission to the BS06 Bachelor of Business (Dean's Honours Program).

Business Academic Excellence
Academic Excellence Scholarships of $5000 are available to all OP 1-2 domestic students who enrol in either the BS05 Bachelor of Business, BS07 Bachelor of Business (Accelerated) courses or one of the double degrees offered with the Bachelor of Business component.
These scholarships are only available to those students who do not hold any other academic scholarship at QUT. As OP 1-2 students you may be eligible for one of the other prestigious University or Faculty of Business scholarships and we encourage you to seek information about these more financially beneficial programs.

I work part-time as a rock climbing instructor and I also do busking.
This helps to pay for my living expenses and my scholarship money
pays for my course at university. I will be working as a volunteer
at 4EBFM radio station throughout my course to gain further technical
skills and to improve my network of contacts in the industry.

Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarships
The Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarships (previously the Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Teaching Scholarships) were developed by the Department
of Education, Training and the Arts to assist aspiring teachers of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander descent to complete their degrees and make
a difference in education.
Valued at up to $20,000 each over four years, up to 15 scholarships are
awarded to applicants of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage
to assist them in gaining degrees in education at Queensland universities.

Nurse Scholarship Program
The Nurse Scholarship Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, and is administered by the Royal College of Nursing, Australia. (During 2009-10, the Nurse Scholarship Program will be consolidated into the Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme).
The Nurse Scholarship Program is comprised of the:
- Rural and Remote Undergraduate Scheme;
- Continuing Professional Education Scheme for Rural and Remote Nurses;
- Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Scheme; and
- National Nurse Re-entry Scheme.

The Rural and Remote Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme provides funding for undergraduate students from rural and remote areas of Australia who are undertaking a Registered/Division 1 nursing degree. The scholarship is worth up to $10,000 per annum for full time study or $5,000 for part time study, up to a maximum of $30,000. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, they must have had a principal home residence in a rural or remote area of Australia* for a minimum of five years and they must be currently studying, or intending to study, an accredited graduate entry, pre-registration nursing course at an Australian university to become a Registered/Division 1 nurse.
The Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Scheme seeks to support registered nurses who are studying or intending to study to become endorsed nurse practitioners. Scholarships are worth up to a maximum of $30,000 ($7,500 per semester for full-time study and $3,750 per semester for part-time study). Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, registered (division 1 or division 3) nurses with a current practising certificate, enrolled in or intending to enrol in a course of study in 2010 which will lead to endorsement as a nurse practitioner and able to demonstrate a commitment to becoming a nurse practitioner.

Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme
The Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, and administered by Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA).
Scholarships are available for the start of the 2010 academic year and are worth up to $7,500 per year for part time study and up to $15,000 per year for full time study. Applications are available to download from www.rcna.org.au.
The scholarship provides financial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are or will be studying at a TAFE (Certificate IV and above) or undergraduate level in the areas of:
- Aboriginal health worker
- Alcohol and other drugs workers

- Dentistry/oral health
- Health service management
- Health promotion
- Medicine
- Mental health
- Midwifery
- Nursing
Applicants must identify as and be able to prove their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status.
Selection is based on criteria including demonstrated interest and experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, leadership qualities and financial need. This selection is not based on academic achievement.

Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme: Undergraduate
The scholarship is funded by the Australian Government and administered by Royal College of Nursing, Australia.
Undergraduate scholarships are available to people who can demonstrate a commitment to aged care and wish to undertake undergraduate education at an Australian university in 2010. The scholarships are only available for courses leading to a qualification to practice as a Registered/Division 1 Nurse.
This Scholarship is valued up to $30,000 to assist in meeting costs incurred while studying undergraduate nursing.

Graduates of the QUT School of Law, the legal profession and the University
created the QUT Law Founders Scholarship.
This scholarship is offered to a first-year

Indigenous Undergraduate Financial Support
From 2006, all Indigenous students studying the Bachelor of Information Technology will receive financial support in the form of textbook vouchers in Semesters 1 and 2. This initiative is designed to encourage and support Indigenous students whilst they undertake their undergraduate studies.

Trevor Lewis Memorial Bursary
The bursary is awarded each year to a student entering the Physics Honours
course or the Coursework Masters in Medical Physics in that year. The
value of the bursary is $1,000. Applicants will be judged on their academic
record prior to entry into the course. Applicants must be enrolled in
the required course in order to receive the bursary.
The Trevor Lewis Memorial Bursary will be on offer in 2010. Applications
open in February 2010.

Mathematics Bursary
The Mathematics Bursary Program was established to foster studies in
mathematics and statistics. A number of bursaries are provided by employers
to assist full-time students in the Bachelor of Mathematics or the Mathematics
double degrees with Business, Information Technology, Science or Engineering.
Each bursary is valued at $3000, payable in instalments over the length
of the course.
